About Us

Theodore Osuala M.D.

I am Dr. Theodore Osuala, a seasoned psychiatrist who set out initially working in family medicine, treating people with different ailments. Over the years I found out that a particular group of patients needed more attention and care, so I went into psychiatry and I have been in it and loving it since 1996.

I started my career in psychiatry training at University of Texas, Houston and completed it at University of Maryland Baltimore. I took a fellowship training in Geriatric psychiatry with special emphasis in Dementias and other psychosomatic illness in our elderly population.

After completing my fellowship training, I joined the University of Maryland, School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry as faculty and Clinical Assistant professor. I worked in fast pace Psychiatric Emergency services where we managed different acute and difficult to treat patients.

I was also privileged to teach medical students and resident doctors about psychiatry and the very important care need to listen and treat all our patients without being judgmental.

I am board certified by the American Board of psychiatry and Neurology. As a Diplomate of the board, I worked with an ACT program that cares for the severely mentally ill and that afforded me the opportunity learn more from my patients because I visited their homes and closely interacted with them in different settings.  All these gave me the privilege of treating diverse illness from simple Depression, Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, Anxiety as well as PTSD. Working at the VA hospital exposed me to a lot of our Veterans of world wars and Iraq war.

My sub-specialization in Geriatric is augmented by my knowledge of general/ family medicine which helps in treating our elderly who have multiple medical problems in association with mental illness.

As I continued to develop in care of my patients, I found out that many people have sexual disorders and no one asks about that department because of fear of how they will be perceived, I intentionally developed that area of my practice and it was very enlightening to know that I can help a lot of people with problems they are shy to tell other doctors.

I believe in total care of the individual and not just their mental health as a good health is a totality of physical and mental health.

At our practice I take time to educate my patients about the brain and the different types of mental illness and that gave birth to our pod cats “Dr Gilead Show”. You can check us out on YouTube to learn more on some of the topics we talked about.

My aim is to make sure that any one who walks through our doors have good knowledge of their illness and receive the best care so they can be stable and help other people.

I have put together a great team of professionals that will help as many as come our way.
